下鴨神社 みたらし祭り

Shimogamo Shrine Mitarashi Festival

Hello everyone. This is Midopa, an online staff member.

At this time of year, Kyoto's summer is in full swing.

The Mitarashi Festival is held at Shimogamo Shrine.

The Mitarashi Festival is held at Mitarai Pond in the grounds of Shimogamo Shrine.

A foot-setting ritual is being held.

Soaking your feet in Mitarai Pond will wash away your sins and impurities.

It is said to have the effect of warding off evil spirits.

This year it started on the 21st.

Pay the lighting fee at the entrance of Mitarai Pond ,

Get a candle and go into the pond.

This is quite deep!

Is it about the ankle? Be careful if you go there thinking that.

Even if you are 155cm tall, you will be submerged in cold water up to your knees.

We recommend wearing an outfit that can be pulled up to above your knees! 😅

A shrine building is built and enshrined above the well.

Offering candles to the subsidiary shrine, Inoue Shrine,

Once you get out of the pond, you will drink sacred water.

On the way back, stop at "Saruya" in the temple grounds.

I also bought monkey mochi.

Eating it removes evil spirits,

This is ankoro mochi that prays for good health.

It looks like I'll be able to spend the remaining half of the year in good spirits 😊🍵
